The 4th release of our 2022 members-only THE 1871 CLUB series. Selected during tastings by Head Distiller Adam Chapman as the absolute stand out of 44 different barrels, this barrel showed immediate strength, style, and the qualities we value most for Nil Desperandum rums. Dense, dried currants and dried blackberries packed into a delightfully serious rum.

Our second ‘wild yeast’ fermented release (after ‘The Wild Muck’ – Gold medal & best in class at the 2022 Australian Rum Awards) and a very good example of what’s to come in 2023 and beyond!

Double copper pot distilled, cut at 59% ABV from hearts to tails, and aged for 2 years & 9 months in re-coopered American oak bourbon barrels emptied of port. 100% unadulterated. Bottled at 53% ABV without the addition of sugar, colouring, flavours or chemicals. A rum to satisfy the lovers of the world’s best.

Powerful dark red dried cranberries, dried prunes, golden syrup and aged molasses. Toffee, burnt salted Brûlée, dried raisins and crème caramel.


Dry, rich, elegant palate of dried cranberries, dates and dried blackberries. Richness and full body coming wild yeast influence and the extra palate length from the port cask ageing.

Serving suggestion

Neat over ice or with a splash of dry ginger ale.
